Sizing up for Made to Measure Roller Blinds
Recess Measurement
Recess measurement is used when you want the roller blinds to be fitted inside the window recess.
- Recess Width
Note 3 measurements for the width of the window recess, as indicated by the horizontal arrows in the picture.
Use the smallest of these measurements to get the recess width.
- Recess Drop
Note 3 measurements for the drop of the window recess, as indicated by the vertical arrows in the picture.
Use the smallest of these measurements to get the recess drop for your roller blinds.

Exact Blind Measurement (Including Mechanism)
Exact blind measurement is used when you want the blind to be fitted outside the window recess.
- Exact Blind Width (also known as finished blind width or pin width)
Decide how much you wish to overlap the recess at each side – remember this includes the mechanism. We recommend at least 75mm each side to avoid gaps of light.
Note the overall width measurement including the overlap. This is the Exact Blind Width.
- Exact Blind Drop
Decide how much you wish to overlap the recess at the top & bottom. As before, we recommend at least 75mm at the top if you require the roller blinds to roll up fully above the window recess.
Note the overall drop measurement including the overlap. This is the Exact Blind Drop.

Cloth Measurement – For Exact Blind Width and Recess Width.
It is important to remember the cloth width is smaller than the exact blind width.
- Cloth Width
Measure the width the blind cloth is required to be for the roller blinds.
Your cloth width should be about 32 mm less than the exact blind width and less than the recess width
- Cloth Drop
Note the overall drop. This is the same as the Exact Blind Drop because the mechanism takes up no extra space.
