Can't turn heating off

Post by kevinsmbuk »

Just moved house and the boiler had been installed within last few months.

Hot water is on a program but when it runs the central heating comes on too. Figured it would be the diverter valve and funnily enough it was in the middle position. Now set to auto mostly all heaters don't come on apart from one which is in the hallway and doesnt have a Thermostatic valve. Why would this one be on with only the hot water running and not the rest?

Could it be that the TRV's have all closed, so the water runs the only way it can..........through the rad with no TRV.
As I understand it you are supposed to have one rad with no TRV, but its usually the bathroom one. (Don't worry its not in your case)

What happens if you "open" all the TRV's ?

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

My first thought would be the heating zone valve or 3 port valve, is stuck mid position, or letting by.

The 3 port valve was in the middle but i moved it to auto. But the hallway rad still comes on with the hot water. The thermostat with the lcd the owner said controls the temp of the rad in the hallway, is that correct?

Not quite, the thermostat in the hall controls the air temperature in the hall, not the actual temperature of what the radiator feels to the touch, if that is what you meant.

When the hall thermostat goes off, all the radiators will/should be off.

When it is on then they all should be on and then individually controlled by each thermostatic valve on them.

Did you actually hear the valve go back to HW position and is the man lever 'loose' or 'tight' back when on HW only?

Don't quote me on this, but I think it's working ok now. The radiator in the hall doesn't seem to come on with the hot water anymore, we haven't really done anything different since.

Although my partner did comment the lounge rad was getting hot when the water was on! Will keep an eye on it and repost if the issue continues, but thankyou for all your help so far
