Nissan Almera Seat Belt

Post by yellowlab_2 »

My dog has just chewed through the rear passenger seat belt webbing. Has anyone ever had to replace the seat belt on an Almera and if so, what sort of job is it. The workshop manual is not much help.

Jesus what type of dog do you have?

A lot of cars have the recoil mechanism for the rear seat belt in the boot.

You can get universal ones that just bolt into place, but it's best if you can remove the old one first and then you can ensure that you get one that will fit, unless you get one from the dealers.

I would think the only problem you may encouter, is the fixing bolt could be a large torx head. PRobably T45 or 50, a bit bigger than in most standard screwdriver sets.

Have a look. It wont be a hard job.

Almera Seat Belt

Post by yellowlab_2 »

Hello,
Thanks for the reply. I've got a Labrador Dog( the guilty party) plus 2 Lab bitches. He chewed through the webbing whilst I was making a trip of about one mile. The recoil bit is in the boot but behind some plastic lining which might or might not be difficult to prise off. I suppose I ought to make a trip to Halfords to see if they have anything that might fit. The nearest Nissan dealer to where I live is about 15 miles.

Hello Hitch,

Thanks for your reply. Sorry to be so ignorant but can you tell me what a torx head is, I've never heard of that before. My main worry is getting out the plastic liner covering the recoil head, it looks so flimsy and seems to lie directly against the rear passenger window, I suppose the window is held secure by a rubber seal but who knows. There are no screws holding this lining so I suppose one has to just prise it off.

Usually held in with small plastic 'button' clips
A bit of a tug near the clips normally does the trick if you havnt got the correct trim removal tools.

A car breakers may be your best bet for a new seat belt, if there isn't one near you there are loads on line.

Hello Hitch,

Thanks for your reply. When I feel lucky I will have a go, got to sort out a replacement belt first. Got plenty of time, MOT does not expire untill next January and I don't usually carry rear passengers.

Hello,

It was from a firm called Brakerlink. They send out e-mails to a number of breakers and then contact you.
