more decking enquiries

Post by dread123 »

i hate this time of year!
Mrs constantly on at me to get garden sorted for 7th yr running :)

gonna attempt to lay some decking in yard. mate done his and will come up and oversee. can anyone give some good advice then?

measured out the space we want in yard. going to be 4mtrs x 3.5mtrs. not after anything fancy. what i need to know is how many deckboards would be required to fill?
the deckboard size is 120mmx30mm at cost of £1.30 a mtr, obviously allowing for gap in between each? (they can supply in 3mtr, 3.6mtr, 4.2mtr aswell -would a longer size be better?) sorry soo many questions..lol

Also the joists for framweork -how many would be required -using 4x2" again at £1.30 a mtr or i can have 3.6mtr?

Anyone wanna work out the maths on whats needed please..very confused, but willing to give it a go?

cheers

Hi dread

Worked out on the assumption that your running the decking the 4m way
not a raised decking and the joists are at ground level you will need

11 no 3.6 x 100 x 50 joists cut down to 3.4m

3 no 4.2 x 100 x 50 2 cut at 4m to go on the end of the joists and
and one cut for centre row of noggings

28 no 4.2 x 120 x 30 decking boards leaving 5mm gap cut down to 4.0m

616 decking screws

11 x 3.6 = 39.9
3 x 4.2 = 12.6
= 52.5 linea metre @ £1.30 = £68.25

28 x 4.2 = 117.6 linea metre @ £1.30 = £152.88

616 decking screws approx £50.00

271.13
47.44 vat
318.57
There would be less trouble in the world
if l had not had six daughters
