Replacement motor brushes

Post by Xantiaman »

Hi, :help:

I've an old Hiatchi 12v cordless SDS drill that apparently has a 'sealed' motor and non replaceable brushes.
Wrong, the end cap easily comes away from the motor assembly offering up the brush housings which have internal measurements of 4mmx4mmx9mm.
Where can I find a pair of brushes of that or very similar size, 'cos Hitachi won't sell me anything but a new £100 motor!
There must be brushes out there of a size that will either fit, or can be resized, to give what in essence is a bloody good drill another years life.

Thanks people,

Xantiaman

Sure is, and there are Bands that regularly play there!

The problem is Scruff, that the brushes have been worn away to a carbon paste and there fore I have nothing to show anybody as an example of what they were like!

Have you got the manual for it?
They have part no for just about every part along with diagrams. Usually easier if you can quote part numbers.

Might be worth a try...

If you take the drill in they may know what you want.

I used to play in the Sally Army band :thumbright:

Had quite a few years at Horsham High as well, big in Rugby and cross country in them days, early 50s

I have in the past, filed brushes to size.
Get the right grade as some are 'hard' and could wear your commutator out before they wear out themselves.

Thanks John, this was my idea as soon as I can identify somewhere to find a brush of about the right size.
