Power antivirus

This information from Microsoft keeps poppin up on my screen every 60 seconds.

WARNING ATTACK DETECTED

It goes on to say that I should activiate Power anti virus.
When you activate it it says that you can download the protection for £40 to £80. Surprise Surprise.

I have went into install programmes to try and delete it without any success. Does anybody have any ideas as to how I can get rid of this.

Do you have an anti-spyware program? If not download Spybot Search and Destroy and let it do what it says on the tin

Hi there, Auntie Pink.

I had Norton security up until 2 months ago.

Other info is coming up on my screen saying that my computer is infected and that I should download their (free software).

I am vary suspicious of downloading these incase it is a virus.

Have you uninstalled norton, because had virus warnings when I stopped using it.

Download avgfree and ccleaner

ccleaner finds all sorts of cookies and spyware.

As you suspected, you have a dodgy program that is asking for money to fix the issues.

The only problem you probably have is the program itself.

Don't pay for it for 2 reasons:

1. It doesn't fix your computer. It will likely download more crap, possibly including keyloggers.

2. Paying for it hands your credit/debit card details ove to some anonymous person. Who knows how they'll use that information?

To remove it, follow the instructions here

Norton may as well not exist as far as infections like this are concerned. Malwarebytes is an excellnt program. I use it all the time to finish off the bits left behind after removing dodgy stuff manually.

just type remove power antivirus in google and see what you get ..bloody loads of it
follow Richie`s instructions though ..easy peasy

you wouldnt believe the amount of pc`s that get infected with this sort of crap

Win Antivirus 2008 was the last one doing the rounds ,guess its the same one

never never never click on a pop up that says "you have a virus click here to repair etc etc "
one big con that will only infect you more

I actually followed Scruff advice and downloaded avgfree and ccleaner at 11.30 this morning. It done a complete scan of my computer which took about 40 mins. I haven't had the power anti-virus appear on the screen

There is another one which appears about every 20 mins. Which is not to bad considering the power anti virus appeared every 60 secs.

Foggy, the other one is Antivirus64

Again it says that the computer is infected with viruses and that I must download their Antivirus.

Still can't get rid of it

Hi John,

Easy removal for you John if you follow these instructions

1st thing to do is clear out all your temporary files, tool of choice is ATF Cleaner, it is free and you do not have to install it. Download and instructions here:

Download MalwareBytes' AntiMalware aka MBAM, it too is free, click the green download button on the left of the page and save the file to your desktop.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware can detect and remove this rogue application for free.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to the following:

o Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
o Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

* Then click Finish .
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan , then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK , then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. The Antivir64 rogue application should now be gone.
