tiling backerboard

Post by mac321 »

Hi all

Maybe you can assist/advice with a query regarding backerboards?

I am removing bathroom walls (currently nasty tiles over old plasterboard) and will be completely retiling using 60x30 tiles of over 20 KG per M2.

I am considering mounting HardiBacker board (12mm) onto the existing studding and then tiling onto that.

Question is: Is Hardibacker the best to use or is there a better alternate, considering performance and cost?

Any tips/area's to watch for if I do use Hardibacker?

Many thanks

M

I have never personally used it, but it is supposed to be as good as aquapanel. Tile backer boards can carry more weight per square metre than most other substrates, just make sure that you fix it as per the manufacturers instructions

I have used it, it's much stronger than plasterboard but much harder to work with. It isn't as flat so I've used more adhesive.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

Is it a bathroom? If so, have you considered tanking the shower area?
