Hey Gadget et al, my IT tutor told me that he finds CCleaner sometimes doesn't do a great job of cleaning the User Assist key, which logs online/offline activity. You can read about that and the 'Count Keys' here -http://personal-computer-tutor.com/abc3/v29/vic29.htm
You can safely delete the entire UserAssist key as it will be recreated (whether you like it or not) when you reboot.
To delete the key:
Click Start>Run, type regedit and click Ok to launch the registry editor.
Make your way to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\UserAssist
Right click the UserAssist key and choose Delete.

Make sure you back your registery up first. A corrupted registery can be a nightmare as windows can fail to boot up. Also be careful what you choose to do as a registery cleaner can suggest removing entries which are needed.
As Hoovie said CCleaner is a good one and I think it has a registery back up facility included
