tiling over floor tiles?

Post by greenfairyfay »

Hello everyone newbie here, can someone advise please?? My kitchen floor is already tiled with hideous ceramic tiles. Is it possible to tile directly over these or do I need to remove them? huge job if so... :cb

As long as the tiles are firmly fixed and not loose you can tile on top of them. You need to clean them first with sugar soap and ensure that the joints on the new tiles do not line up with the joints on the old tiles underneath.

When you go to buy your adhesive tell them in the shop that you are tiling on top of old tiles and they will give you the correct adhesive.

Hopefully the slightly raised floor level will not be a problem?
