Remove skirting boards or beading??

Post by ross1562 »

Hi,
I am soon to complete my first attempt at laminate flooring in my dining room. It is a standard rectangle shape of 20sqm and has an archway and 2 x sliding french patio doors. Flooring is tounge and groove.

Qusetion is: Obviously it looks a lot better without beading but as it is my first attempt, should i forget about thinking of putting the flooring under the skirting boards?

Regards,

Ross.

I think you answered your own question, just make sure you read
the manufacturers notes on expansion gaps

Good luck any problems come back

and in fact, as it is your first attempt, without the skirting boards in place makes it easier as the expansion gaps can be more forgiving (as skirting is a lot wider then beading)
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I removed my skirting, it was easy as mine are screwed to the wall.
I think it looks a darn sight better.

The floor looks alot better when the skirtings are removed and easier to do like the other guys say.

But then you have the job of fitting your skirting boards, it is worth doing

Thanks all,
Do you think i will be able to remove the skirts and then re-fit the originals or will i need new ones?
I have decided to remove them so will be doing it soon.

You should be able to refit your existing skirtings without too much hassle, assuming that they don't break when being taken off.

Chances are that they will go straight back on with no need to trim.

Get yourself a Bosch PMF-180 and trim the skirting.

With all due respect.....

Have you any idea how many blades you would get through to try and trim nigh on 18 metres of skirting ???

That tool is designed to undercut the odd door lining at best to receive laminate...

Far easier to pop the existing skirting off and refit.
