Creaking door

Post by stofts »

I have recently had a new door fitted. The door is a lightweight moulded door and is fiited on two hinges. It creaks like crazy. I have noticed the lower hinge is not cut out of the door frame but the upper hinge is cut out of the door frame, could this be the problem? I am grateful for any help.

The most posible reason for hinges squeaking is there poorly cut in and
are out of line

Check that the hinges are cut in flush on the door, adjust if nead be

Undo the screws of the hinges to the door frame by half a turn except the
top one to each hinge

Close the door slowly standing on the hinge side of the door and see if
the hinge pulls away from the frame and pack out accordingly

Or a bit of oil might help but that only masks the problem not cures it

Better still call the wood butcher back to fix it
There would be less trouble in the world
if l had not had six daughters

the hinges need to be in line have you got a 6ft strait edge!!!

hold it against knuckle off the hinges parralel to the wall and at 90 degrees to the wall

does the door become silent at around 90 % to the wall!!!

hinge bound. watch the hinges and see if one pulls away when you close the door. then pack itout to suit. basically as has been said by the other guys.

Thanks for that... I appreciate it.

I have noticed that the other doors that have also been replaced recently, albeit by another carpenter, have three hinges rather than two. None of them sqeak. Could this be part of the answer?

unless they are very heavy doors the opposite will be the case

if he cant get 2 hinges to line up properly what are his chances of 3 liming up lol

3 hinges only usually needed on heavy doors like fire doors for example
