door knobs with detachable roses

Post by stofts »

I have bought some door knobs (fairly cheap ones) but unfortunately the screws are impossible to screw in to the rose as the knob is in the way of the screwdriver. I have seen some door knobs where the rose and the knob are detachable; this would solve the problem completely but I can't find them now....any ideas?

You should be able to get the screws in by tilting the hand screw driver slightly. Pilot hole with a small drill first will make it a lot easier.

Sometimes cheap door knobs are not designed very well, try to buy good ones to save hassle

Drill a pilot hole like Joiner uk says and it will make it easier.

Hold the door knob in place and mark the holes with a pencil, remove the doork knob and then drill small pilot holes, then replace and use the screwdriver on a angle.

The majority of cheap brass door knobs are held to the backplate with a circlip, The more expensive ones have a seperate fixing plate.

Invisible fix door knobs, After a steel fixing disc is screwed to the door, with latch posts inserted through the pre-fitted mortice latch, the backplate is simply threaded on. No screw heads or fixings are visible, and the backplate is held securely in place.
