how to level a floor!!

Post by iainiow »

Hi,

I have a fairly wonky kitchen and dining room floor currently ::b

I have two sunken areas where the joists have gone and areas where a thin sheet of board on top of the floor boards is missing.

I can repair the joists, what i need to establish is how to get the floor nice a level all over!!

What i intend to do is remove the current vinyl flooring and lay a fresh new vinyl. The current surface is knackered as the missing board has caused indentations.

What i appear to have is a very thin gauge board covering the original floor boards. would it be overkill to rip the lot up and relay from fresh?

I want the floor to be as smooth and level as possible as im bored of saggy corners and damaged vinyl!!

probably wouldnt be over kill as id bet youll find rot in other areas of the joists anyway. we usually do when we do jobs like this.

you may also find that over time the whole floor has settled a bit aswell
