rover 218 diesel
rover 218 1993,when car is left over night it wont start just clicks as if battery flat, new battery ok for few weeks then start all over again, sometimes starts with jump, sounds like something draining battery thought it might be alarm(standard rover one) when locking car so started to leave unlocked in garage but still the same, any one had this problem or any ideas.

this may help or may not. also im assuming diesel starters will work in the same manner as petrol starters.

I would be inclined to check the starter motor, this sounds the same as as Landrover we once had, i initially thought it was the battery as i would just die overnight and either be very slow at turning over or it would just click we had a new starter fitted and it was sorted
If you think nobody cares, try missing a couple of payments..

all of the above really and other things to check are:
battery drain; check all lights inc any in the boot to make sure they are all off. make sure nothing like iPods etc are left connected as some act as chargers. you can use a volt meter (multimeter) to see if anything is drawing current.
alternator charge: the volatge regulator may have given up... check the voltage across the terminal to make sure its charging properly (off the top of my head it should read 14.4v on fast idle; 12v or close to 12v when engine off). you could check first thing to see how much juice the battery has.
change battery again; you should have some guarantee with it... its not unknown for new batteries to be duff.
winter is always the time when dodgy batteries let go.
