Thinking of getting one of these...

...for my mitre saw and various other tools but they are all 110v

Anyone using the above on-board socked for auto tool switch on through a tranny? would there be any problems switching a transformer on?

For anyone interested, I mailed Earlex and they are not sure

Apparantly i'm the first to ask that question and they don't know the answer, so they are getting their technical team to do some tests and will let me know

I'll let you know what they say :thumbright:

Hi Tango,

I use a Makita vac with onboard 110v. The vac is 110v so it runs through a tranny. I found that anything smaller than 2kva and it looses power. So I only use it through a 3.0Kva.

TEST REPORT

Test No.:
895

Ref. STR №:
N/A

Date:
27/11/08

Product:
WD1200P Power Vac

Part/component:
Power Take Of Facility

Manufacturer:
Earlex Limited

Description:
Usage of a 240V to 120V transformer on a WD1200P

Name:
Ben Woodling

Results:
The transformer can be used with power tools rated at a maximum of 700W. However the automatic power take off mode does not function with the transformer attached.

Summary
When using the transformer plugged into the PTO socket the power take off mode does not operate. The unit stays constantly on when this is plugged in as the transformer draws about 0.54amps. It is possible to run the transformer and a power tool from the PTO although the WD will stay on constantly. The power tool plugged into the transformer should have a maximum rated Wattage of 700W at 120V.

Recommended Maximum Wattage = 700W

Test Procedure
The WD1200P was tested with a UK heat gun rated at 1800W (Hong guan). The automatic powers take off operated.

The 240V-120V Transformer was then tested on the Variac to record the current drawn when not in use. This showed a current of 0.54A which is enough to operate the automatic PTO.

The WD1200P was then tested with the transformer and American power tool plugged in. The automatic PTO did not function. The WD1200P stayed on continuously when the power tool was off.

The maximum Wattage of any power tools connected through the transformer was calculated at 770.4W. A safe recommended Wattage is 700W.
