TV Rant No 1 - Do they think we're bleedin' thick!

Post by 54aardvark »

At the start of the programme you get highlights of what is going to happen, just before the adverts you get a recap of what has happened, after the adverts you get told again what just happened and whats about to happen. This has started happening on BBC now with random breaks which tell you what you already know and what you don't know (yet).

Is my attention span so short that I need constantly reminding what I saw in the last 15 minutes? (could be helpful if I had Altzheimers - but I don't yet).

Are they so insecure that they think I need encouragement to watch the rest of the programme? And whats the point of working your way through a programme only to be told "the butler did it" 20 minutes before he does. Several times I've been given the punchline so I've switched off, whats the point if you know the outcome.

If you tot up all the time taken with this nonsense, a 1 hour programme only runs for half that (taking adverts into account). So they're either packing out the schedule to provide less actual veiwing time - or they think I'm bleedin' thick!

I hate it when the reduce the size of the final credits and talk over them or advertise the next programme. We often wonder who played a character or where it was filmed and it's all lost because it gets too small to read! ::b

I gave up watching the 'box' years ago other than the odd decent program (about 4 a year at best).

What killed TV for me was living in the USA for too long. If you think TV is bad here go over there it is AWUL! One can be watching a film and every 5 to 10 minutes there is an advert. Well OK so they are commercial channels BUT there is no break between the film and an advert so you are never too sure what you are watching. Decided it was crap anyway so stopped.

If that was bad that is exactly what is coming our way over here soon. So give up all hope now and would the last turn the lights out please.

I was over there twice last year and in total managed to watch one program (film in fact) before I just gave up with it there for the reasons you said - unwatchable.

I do enjoy watching TV, I will admit, but very rarely without having recorded the program first so can FF through ads and recaps
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Don't they tell us the story so far after a break, is for the people who swap channels during commercial breaks., so they quickly catch up? Annoying though, I reckon a 60 minute slot could be edited down to 30 if the padding was eliminated.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.
