Nurses
Saw a news item the other day. Apparently nurses will no longer be allowed to use terms such as 'Deary' and 'Me Darling' when talking to elderly patients. As in "And how are we this morning my dear".
I think the day is coming when all do-gooders need to be taken out and shot, simply to save a once great nation.

I think anyone that calls a stranger "mate" in every sentence needs shooting! I can't stand that!
Old people call others dear, deary, love, my darling but there's nothing wrong with that, so nurses should be allowed to use those terms if the old folks don't mind.

Failure means you just didn't get it right yet!

When I started my Nurse training in the mid 70's you were expected to call patients Mr or Mrs/Miss - unless they unvited you to call them by their first name, as for "Love", "Dearie" etc, Sister would have you on a fizzer if she heard you!.Bludall wrote:so nurses should be allowed to use those terms if the old folks don't mind.
Its something I still do automatically, especially with a career change and meeting new clients. While I am on first name terms with most of my clients, there are a few I have been working for over the past 5 years and I don't have a clue what their first name is.
I find it a bit presumtuous and patronising when peoiple I have never met (Hospitals, Banks etc) start off using my first name, its like they know more about me than they do and I immediately go on the defensive.
As for "Love", "Dearie" etc, I would be extremely annoyed if I was laid out in a hospital bed and some young thing had that little regard for my care that they couldn't be bothered to find out my name!

When I was last in hospital, the nurses asked how I'd like to be known, Mr (surname) or (forename).
"Neither" I said. Call me Stoday. They asked why
Mr A is my family name. Don't want to be called that.
B is my given name. Don't want to be called that either.
Stoday is my chosen name. That'll do for me because I chose it.
Glad I'm not IDBI. If he sh*t the bed the nurse would say "I don't believe it, I don't believe it". Ha! Ha!
If you believe this crap you'll believe anything!

I should be dead; I've cheated the Grim Reaper yet again by surviving my third heart attack in June.
