Hardwood door for outside use

Post by Geewizz »

I've been asked to make a gate/door for a garden. It will be mounted in a gateway between stone pillars. If it was constructed using fresh oak boards, what sort of finish would preserve it and keep it looking its best?

How often would that need to be applied? Will it be winter proof?

Scratch that. It turns out that they want it painted now. So it will be built with beech, not oak. I'm not wasting oak under a coat of paint.
