When i start up my fairly new Advent 7310, I hit the Power button the fans kick up & the power light comes on but nothing else. Anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?
Cheers

Could be a hard disk failure, do you see the BIOS starting at all on the screen (i.e white writing giving you system info, hardware configuration etc)

If its 'fairly new' then they can have it back then, let them sort it out.
Sounds like the BIOS boot has kicked the bucket.
PS. Get a decent computer with a proper operating system - http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/

Only other things I can think off is
1) try a bootable CD. You may have got one with your machine.
2)The cable to the hard disk may have come dettached or not connected fully. I have this problem with my graphics card not working and PC kept overheating hence the onboard fan (on the graphics card) didn't spin But in your case the fan should be independant so will spin anyway
3) attach an external monitor to the lap top and see if you can narrow the source of the problem

Re: No POST
Can't remember if this is the case nowadays or not, but if you have a wired keyboard, the 3 main LEDS - caps lock, scroll lock and num lock flash once or twice and then go off (num lock may stay on) as part of post. a laptop sequence shoudl be similarsubmar1ney wrote:When i start up my fairly new Advent 7310, I hit the Power button the fans kick up & the power light comes on but nothing else. If they stay on, system is not looking good!
Also try with AC power in and battery removed and see what happens.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

could be that rs232, or loose ram, loose hdd cable.
People would be shocked if they saw the abuse couriers put laptops through.
MAC OS? :P its just tarted up BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution) which is a distant relation of linux. Lots of BSD variants out there...apple just slapped the aqua interface on the top of theirs *puts geek glasses on*
Macs have nice design but the price makes my eyes water
