Timber sizes

Post by Mooncat »

Bought two batches of CLS nominally 100 x 50mm. Both are undersize, instead of 100, one is only 88mm. Is this normal?
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

Yes this is perfectly normal in cls.

As the timber is supplied dressed it will be under size in comparison to offsaw timber.

This size is standard in cls although it will vary slightly depending on moisture content and if going for 3 x 2 cls it would be 63mm x 38mm.

If you are looking to go for a size closer to 100 but keep the timber dressed you would have to go for C16 or even C24 which relative to 4 x 2 sizes would be sized at 95mm x 45mm
regards
Steve.

Thanks for the info, I'll use what I have here, but will be carefull next time. I'm using it to build a substantial tiled plinth for the whirlpool bath which Mrs M is eager to try out.
