Tiling over Painted Tiles

Post by paulo1888 »

Hi

The bathroom wall tiles I am looking to tile over were painted over with Gloss Paint a few years back. I have bought Unibond "Tile over existing Tiles" adhesive. I have washed down the existing wall tiles and it looks pretty smooth. I cant see anything on the forum for Tiling over Gloss painted tiles.

Any help and advice before I start would be great.

Many Thanks

There is not much that you can do apart from sticking some carpet tape to the paint on the tiles. Press the tape onto the tiles firmly and then remove it after half an hour. If paint comes with the tape then you cannot tile over the paint and it will require removing.

Short and sweet.

Its is considered a bit of a bodge job to pro tilers. Your new tiles are only as good as the substrate they are fixed to. Although the paint may appear solid and ok.......it will only take a small patch to cause problems.

If you want a long lasting job. Remove exsisting tiles......make good any damage....then re-tile onto a fresh clear base  :thumbright:

Oklay Doklay :-)
