Thanks for all the advice.

The floorboards look in good nick so hopefully I can put ply / panels straight down.

Any advice on a good adhesive please?

We use a lot of BAL products & would recommend the single part flexible, try a local independent tile shop for a better price rather than the high st stores who charge extortinate rates to walk in trade.

How bigs the floor scobie?

Hi Paul, sorry for delayed response (I don't get to a computer very often)

The room is about 4m x 3m (less bath). Does the size affect the choice of adhesive?

Size of the room?

Not on quality but maybe on cost of it if you know what I mean, probably need 2 bags, maybe 1 more if thicker in places.
