Post by big-all »

i am trying to source some acrylic at reasonable price
i have a freind who is virtualy house bound because of epeleptic fits and other health issues
he asked me to frame 3 tutankamun stitch by number pictures complete 450 x325 and an LMS 1936 print of 600x400mm of 2 locos and carriges
total sheet required 900x925 required

i told him for all the wood my time and trouble [a beer/cider]plus plastic it would be about £30 then find the plastic will be in excess of £40 on its own
any ideas of where i can get acrylic at reasonable prices

You could try your local signmakers as they may have an off cut.

Probably one of the cheapest places to buy it is from perspex distribution-

http://www.perspexdistribution.co.uk/

They might sell unbranded sheet, which will be a little cheaper than buying a branded product.

I used to do a lot of acrylic work - selling on ebay etc. The sheet size i used was 5 & 6mm thick 4' x 8' and it cost me around £60.

That is too much acrylic and is possibly too thick for what you need. For framing i would suggest 3mm thick.

The place i got my acrylic from was a local acrylic (plastics) supplier that i found on yell.com - searching for acrylic suppliers in my area.

Any good supplier will give you an off-cut rather than have you needing to buy a whole sheet. £40 for your acrylic is well off the mark - i would expect half of that, but thats based on what i used to pay.
