wtf is this?

msn, google etc?

what are they doing?

why does it sometimes say 5 bots online and only tell us two of them?

why would google (eg) not always be an online bot?

just generally wtf?

They come and go, could be 8-9 on some times

The bots scan the internet on behalf of search engines creating for want of a better word an 'index' so that when someone for example searches on google for 'staining wood patio' if there is a thread containing those key words on this site then that thread on this site will be one of the search results returned by google.

Years ago there used to be 20-30 online bots at a time, which were all indexing the site. Perhaps they do not need to index it as much now because of the auto updating sitemaps.
