Internet explorer 8 links not opening

Post by ultimatehandyman »

I have recently updated to internet explorer 8 and now everytime I click on a link in the forum the tab opens but the page never loads. If I copy and paste the url into firefox I can view the page.

It is really driving me bonkers as it also does it on Angies computer as well ::b

It is really annoying when I am trying to follow links as the page never loads ::b

Obviously as Internet explorer is such an important part of the operating system that I do not want to try and uninstall it.

Has anyone any suggestions apart from trying firefox?

I can't use firefox on this computer as it keeps crashing

both computers are on XP.

If I click on a link that someone has posted, or someones signature link it opens up another window, but the page does not load and the egg timer is shown :?

What Operating System are you using, Vista or XP?

Open IE -> Tools -> Internet Options -> In the General Tab in the Tab box what is the setting in the drop down menu, 'When a new tab is opened'?

If Blank Page, try the New Tab Page and OK your way out. Shut down the browser and restart and try that.

If it don't work post back but there are lots of people with the same problem on the search engines.

I use Firefox as main browser and only have IE8 to try and replicate problems that people have with it and then sort them out, but I cannot get mine to not play ball on this blank tab business.

A good trick that you can try is, instead of left clicking a link, try pressing your mouse scroll wheel to click, if it has that facility, it will open a new tab with the linked page in it.

Try start then run key in msconfig goto startup disable all restart manually start browser, if that works I'll sort the rest soon. You have to start applications manually,

A few posts appeared whilst I was writing the last one (only 2 finger typist)

Now we know a little more, try deleting temp internet files.

Open IE -> General Tab -> Browsing Hiostory -> Delete.
In the list tick 'Preserve Fav web data' to keep it.
Then tick Temp Int Files and
History
Click Delete.
Close the browser and start it again.
dave

Edit!

Wanted. Free typing lessons!
