NOW! That's What I Call Software 1.

Post by dave.m »

As a followup to the Announcement (above) about Antivirus and Firewall programs, I thought I would post this list that I compiled for another forum. Hope it is of use to some of you.

NOW! That‘s What I Call Software. 1.

ALL these programs are FREE to download and use. Most will work on Vista
Just read every page during installation, because some of them will install a toolbar on your browser by default UNLESS you UNTICK the option.

FIREWALLS

REMEMBER that you can have a software Firewall on the computer and a hardware firewall on a router but NOT two firewalls on a computer.

After installing one of the following Firewalls, check with the Security Centre (Start -> Control
Panel -> Security Centre -> Windows Firewall) that the Windows Firewall is OFF. Some installations will turn it off automatically but some do not, SO CHECK!

Ashampoo Firewall

Comodo Firewall
Review
Note! Comodo Firewall is now part of Comodo Internet Security Suite = Comodo AntiVirus + Comodo Firewall, but you can install just the firewall if you use a different AntiVirus.

ANTI-SPYWARE, ANTI-MALWARE

NOTE! Most Free versions of AntiSpyware software do not provide ‘real-time’ cover. They are ideal for weekly scans and removal of infections, but do not prevent your computer getting infected.

WinPatrol, Windows Defender, Spyware Terminator and Spyware Blaster are real-time system protectors.

Excellent Post - & Welcome to UMH

I might add that Spybot also comes with a real-time monitor called TeaTimer.
It will alert the user to any attempted changes of the Registry.

The PC Inspector stuff is excellent :)

I also use TuneXP 1.5 and RegCleaner in addition to CCleaner.
