Image hosting sites

Post by Gadget »

I'm having problems with image hosting sites, when I find the image I want to upload, my PC freezes. At first I thought it was a problem with Photo Bucket, but it happens with other hosting sites too!...anybody any idea what the problem might be?

What file extension are the pictures that you are trying to upload?
.jpg, .jpeg, .gif ?

What size are they, both dimensions and MB file size?
If you open the folder that they are in and click one of the pictures, it should show you, on the left in XP, the
File Extension (eg. JPEG Image)
Dimensions (eg. 3264 x 2448)
File size (eg. 1.13MB)

If your sizes are much larger than those above, use Microsoft Image Resizer, to make a smaller version, get it free HERE the eleventh one down on the right.
It will keep the original picture in your foldewr and just make a smaller version to try to use for uplading.

What size do you have set at Photobucket?
Try reducing the size on Photobucket.

When it freezes, do you get any error message, and what do you have to do to return to normal operation, reboot or just close the Photobucket?

ps, It was me who clicked the Thankyou button instead of the reply button.

Thanks for the reply but I've been using Photo Bucket for a couple of years now with no problems, and it's just recently the the 'freezing' is happening. So I wondered if there was a simple answer as to why this should happen all of a sudden.

It works fine for me, and as it is also a problem for you with other hosting sites, one must assume it is your computer and not the hosting sites.

Have you changed or updated anything recently?

When did it last work OK, can you do a system restore to that date?

Mine used to do this, and I put it down as a memory prob.

I run a system cleaner, and de-fraged it, took over 12hours ::b but it has been ok since.

hmmm any other sites giving you issues or just photo sites?
try clearing your temporary internet files,

in IE
Tools, internet options, then on the general tab, under browsing history - click delete

Firefox
Tools, clear private data, tick all and press ok

that might work

Also try running a defrag

It worked ok a few days ago, but right now I have other issues to deal with but I'll let you know how I get on with it when I have the other 'issues' dealt with.

If the "other issues" are to do with the same computer, post them on here and let's see if we can help out.

It's the same computer but the issues are with my internet connection, which I'll be dealing with tomorrow when I phone Virgin Media. Right now I'm using Ms Gadgets lappy (like doing micro surgery wearing boxing gloves  )!...........but thanks anyway!

The problem is it seems is when I'm trying to attach files or pics either from an image hosting site or (as Iv'e recently discovered) even in an e-mail. I must add though, sometimes it works fine, so anymore help would be appreciated.

I am a little confused now, because your original post was about problems when uploading to Photobucket, not trying to use pictures already on there.
Can you now upload OK or does it still freeze?

How are you going about trying to attach pics from the hosting site, and where are you trying to put them.
To attach pictures to emails, you do it from your computer files not from the hosting site.

Can you explain exactly what you are doing and where the problem occurs.

Sorry, I worded that badly!......I'm having problems uploading pics to my emails and image hosting sites. When I want to upload a pic, I do as you would normally, ie, 'browse' my pics etc, when I locate the pic, I click on it to highlight it, and then when I click to 'open' it my PC freezes!

I must add, it's only been once or twice I've had the prob uploading pics to e-mails............. and like I said earlier, the problem has only recently started happening,.......... I hope that lot makes sense!

As you'll see by the time stamp, I'm back very quickly!..........Just to say I successfully uploaded a pic to Photobucket within minutes of my last post, without any problem!..........It's driving me crazy!

Most perculiar!

Did you get any joy with Virgin and your connection?
What did the say or recommend?

Have you tried to use the "Old Uploader" on Photobucket?
Click the option at the bottom of the 'Uplaod Box'.

I'm almost 63 now, so it's a while since I connected with a Virgin!.... ..........I've tried the "Old Uploader" and the current one, and it makes no difference..................but like I say, it's working ok now (well it was an hour or so ago), so I think maybe I'll have to grin and bear it, and hopefully I'll catch it on a good day next time.
