Hi
My interior doors have suffered some damage from a over irate teenager. They are only the cheap hollow doors but I cannot afford to replace them all. SO I am looking for ways to repair either by filling or I thort maybe i could cover them with a new skin of very thin sheet plywood, (i think thats what I mean ). I realise that this could affect the opening of the door.
So advise please on the above or a recomended filler for the holes
One way is to cut the damaged area back to solid area in the form of a rectangle. Cut a piece of thin MDF or hardboard big enough to allow you to pass it through the hole on the short edge. Drill a small hole and tie a bit of string through it and then carefully slide the and the repair patch through the hole and rotate it to cover the opening. Squirt a load of No More Nails or similar and pull the string to move the patch into position. Tie up the string in a sort of tourniquet to hold it firm whilst the glue sets.
When ready, fill the area between the patch and the door surface and skim it flush. This may take a couple of applications. Rub down and paint to suit.
If the doors are veneered it can be done but to be honest it would not be worth it.
If you would like I will come around and beat the sh*t out of the teenager to show him what his face will do to a door.
grab his head and smash it through the door. tell him it now has an air vent and if he carries on the rest of the doors will have vents to. even the solid doors
I'm with panlid on this. Smash his head through every door in the house and then they will all match and look better. Afterwards don't buy him any food until either he leaves home or you have saved enough money to buy a new door.
You could just get some expanding foam filer and pump this into the door cavity. wait to dry then just cut back, skin of flexible car body filler over it , light sanding, paint and job done.

If it isnt broke dont bloody touch it until it bloody well is and if it is broke then make drawing of the connections before you remove the broken one and replace with a new one LoL
DWD's method will give a better base to fill but foam would probably work. I wouldn't use car filler as it is harder than polyfiller and you might have a job sanding it down without removing too much of the surounding door.
