Grouting stone tiles

Ive got some stone mosaic sheets to cut up and make a border. Being stone they have imperfections which add to the charicter. Is there a way of grouting without filling all these imperfections in? Or am i being really bone? I have never tiled before.

Your being a bone (as you put it)

They are travertine border tiles, and need sealing before you grout them. And yes, the holes are filled with grout
