When I go on-line everything is OK for a while then my connection slows down to the point of being non-existent sometimes after about an hour or so, sometimes sooner.
Time of day or night has no relevance.
The signal strength on my router (Addon) is excellent and the logo in the bottom right hand corner of the screen shows a connection. I have by-passed the router and connected straight to the modem (ntl home 200) using the Ethernet cable but the the same thing happens. I even bought a new Belkin Ethernet cable just in case the old one had a dodgy connection.
IE8 has been replaced with Firefox but no luck.
ZoneAlarm has been switched off and replaced with the Windows firewall, still no luck.
I have defragged and deleted all temporary files - I assume this empties the cache as well?
The strange thing is that sometimes when my connection slows down I can still recieve emails.
My laptop is running Vista Home Premium, AVG anti-virus and Virgin broadband.
I've got Advanced System Care installed and this shows no problems that it can't fix itself. I had the problem before ASC was installed.
If I do a re-start on the laptop I get web access back for a while.
Internet connection disappears.

your using cable?
if it was ADSL i would say it sounds like errors stacking up on your line which brings your line to a halt till the session is refreshed.
Not sure if it applies to cable or not, but might be worth the torment of phoning your cable provider (I'm assuming virgin media) and telling them your internet connection grinds to a halt after a while of using it.
how long have you had that cable modem??
