Old Tile Cement

Post by davred »

We have a quarry tile floor. In the dim and distant past, marley tiles have been laid on some sort of tile cement. We would like to restore the quarry tiles but while the marley tiles lift off easily, the cement is virtually impossible to shift - I have tried everything I can think of and the only method which has ANY effect is a bolster chisel.

This is very, very slow and I cannot risk damaging the underlying quarry tiles...any ideas?

Thanks

Old Tile Cement

Hi Paul - thanks for this...yes, I've tried the heat gun but no effect. It's actually like mortar rather than an adhesive...very grainy and hard.

You can get some good chemical removers from here- dead link removed

I suggest you check with them before buying to make sure you get the right stuff.
