The Use of Dehumidifiers in a recently Plastered room

Post by mrowen »

Hi, wonder if anyone has any advice on the use of dehumidifiers in a house, bit of background....basically We recently had some damp work redone (tanked two walls) as our house sits slightly below the level of the back road that runs along side (about 2ft). The damp proofing company suggested the problem may be condensation, and I could do with improving airflow.

I am thinking of buying a dehumidifier to control the level of moisture in the air for the house at some point, but I don't want to start using it if it's going to damage the new plastered walls, they all look dried out (two weeks since done) but I'm aware it was taken back to the brick and new render / tanking put on etc, so I'm guessing there may still be mositure in the layers underneath - and I don't want to spoil anything.

Is it ok to start using a dumidifier, if not how long should I wait ?

Cheers

It will be absolutely fine to use a dehumidifier now, most damp problems are caused by bad airflow nowadays due to double glazing and insulation which seals up the house and not allowing air to flow around and escape, which really is a bit of a double edged sword, if you do have minor mould and condensation build up then a dehumidifier is a good idea in the winter (which is when it will get worse)
If you think nobody cares, try missing a couple of payments..

Thanks - I have one in mind from Ebac, so I might grab one of those as soon as I can.
