Fitting a breakfast bar

Post by Neil1974 »

Hi,
I'm fitting a breakfast bar/worktop ( 1000mmx600mm) To a solid wall, I have legs for the free end is there any specific way to mount it to the wall, I have some brackets to screw into the work top and wall should this be enough or will I need something more substantial, is there any specific mounting screws that I should use, any advice apreciated.

Thanks
Neil

Hi u could fit a piece of 2x1 on the wall with screws and plugs then use l brackets to hold the worktop into the wall. The 2x1 will take the weight

You could fit the 2x1 as saul suggests but depending on where the breakfast bar is situated you may not want to see the 2x1 underneath. Or you could use angle brackets screwed straight to the wall that can be sunk into the plaster and filled over to hide them.

a bit late now but if you are tiling afterwards or are happy with a 3mm bead between wall and top

use the "L" shaped brackets that come in the worktop packs

mark the wall where you want the underside off the worktop to sit
draw a line 2mm below the marks
secure the brackets to the wall above the line with the base between the lines

now slide the worktop onto the brackets covering the screws and bracket attached to the wall

go for a bracket at 950 630 and 310[assuming 1m long and support at zero]

you will have to slightly chamfer where the brackets are
we are all ------------------still learning
