Husqvarna pull cord problem! HELP!!!!!

Post by pianorealm »

Hi,
Hope I'm posting in the right section. Have a problem that's driving me up the wall!!!!! I have a Husqvarna 154 SE chainsaw. The pullcord snapped last week. No problem....just replace it I thought. WRONG! I've wound the new cord onto the pulley, thensioned it a couple of turns and checked the spring doesn't 'bottom out'. The pullcord works great when not attached to the saw....recoils as it should. Trouble is, when I bolt it to the side of the machine, it pulls but then doesn't retract...AT ALL! I've checked the spring mech on the two pawls and they are fine. I'm a pretty handy guy (so I thought) but if I can't suss out what's wrong here..I might as well give up!!! Any help greatly appreciated!!!
Cheers, Howard
