Condensation Problem In Flat

Post by graemet »

My new flat is having some condensation problems in the main bedroom.

The room has 3 external walls which aren't insulated and one of them has a large, double glazed, bay window. Since we moved in, the weather has turned cold and we are finding that even with the heating on, the room is too cold to sleep in and anything left in the room is becoming cold and damp.
We've got hold of a dehumidifier and are currently using it for 3-4 hours a day to try and dry the room out.

We've looked into cavity wall insulation to help warm the room up and hopefully help with the condensation issue but as we are part of a four maisonette block, we need the other three flat owners to agree to getting the insulation done and they don'e want to.

The window in the room does not have a catch whee you can open it slightly, it's either open or closed and we don't want to leave it open every day when we're at work.
Is there any other options to ventilate the room to help with the problem?

I looked into Sempatap internal insulation but I'm not sure if this will help.

Any suggestions?

Hi Graemet,
I'm sorry to hear about the dampness, I'm guessing 1930's block?

If you read the rest of the posts about condensation, 9 out of 10 it will be a thirties build.

Not much you can do but ventilhate and heat. ther must be means of locking the windows ajar for security

Sorry,
Simon
