Wired Broadband

Post by DIY_Johnny »

I have sky broadband and there router. Its driving me nuts as it keeps ddropping connection (line is good). Speaking to their tech support is like speaking to a turnip.

IO know its not teh BT line as I have anothe4r broadband provider last year and it was excellent (way too dear though)

I have just plugged in a Cat5e patch cable from broadband to PC, how can I tell if its working via the wired connection and not the wireless?

I disabled the "wireless network connection" and internet stopped working

I'm assuming you're using XP but Vista should be similar.

Go to Control Panel and select Network Connections.

There should be an entry labelled Wireless Network Connection and another labelled Local Area Connection. The latter is the wired network connection and will have a red cross through it if it isn't working.

You can right-click either and select Disable to disable it.
