Dismantle old applicances

Post by DIY_Johnny »

I have had to go to Maplin about 3 times in the last month for bits and bobs for my PC, Am putting in another hard disk and needed the little screws. I also lost a few of the casing screws.

Maplin charge you £3 for a set of screws and I need several different types. I had an old PC which I tossed a few months ago cos it was in the way ::b

Also lost the screw for the guard for my tile cutter and its abugger getting a correct size, but I know I have seen these in toasters etc

Probably worth while dismantling old stuff every now and then

.... thats if you could be assed

I have boxes of screws, nuts, bolts from dismantled stuff, not to mention motors, transformers etc. Once in a while I can actually make use of something.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

Whenever I go to our local Household Waste Recycling Tip I ask if I can have a look in the container where they throw all the old computers that people sling out.
I usually pick up a couple of old desktops and bring them home to see what state they are actually in. Got a few good RAM sticks and the odd graphics card and boxes of screws. Then I take them back to the tip next time I go and try for another couple.
Sad in'it.

At our local recycling centre, whether you can get anything out of a skip all depends on who is on duty. Sometimes whole bathroom suites are left on the side, I swapped a pastel blue WC/cistern and washbasin I had tried to rehome but nobody wanted it, for a brand-new cloakroom basin
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.
