Hanging 30KG mirror

Post by brayleyboy »

Hello All,

I hope somebody can help. I have just bought a beautiful huge mirror from Ikea to hang on the wall in my living room. It came with 2 brackets to attach it to tha wall but no screws. The instructions say this is because it depends what wall you have and you need to get specific ones. I think my wall is just plastered with brick on the outside, how do I know what fixing to use? I'm wary of putting up this 30Kg mirror then bringing the plaster or may wall tumbling down!

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks

rawl plugs drilled into the brick should be fine

I would drill a 6mm hole and use a red plug. Knock the plug into the brick using a screw in it and a hammer

Thanks, couple of questions.

What about the plaster? Do i just drill through that until i reach brick? How thick is it likely to be?

yes drill the plaster, i presume it is actuall plaster and not plasterboard, but even it it is drill throught till you find the brick and then drill in about 2"

plaster is normally about 1/2" thick
