Dongles roam the same as a phone.

But it will cost an arm and a leg to use over there.

Check the networks to see who has the cheapest data roaming costs/offers

Certainly not cheap:

Have you thought about Internet Cafes?

No doubt someone who visits there regularly will come up with the best solution, but those links to have a look at in the mean time.

I used my laptop in Crete last year using my laptop with a built in modem, so I just have to put a sim card in the computer and it connects to that network.

I have two sim cards, one of which is a Three sim card and this is used soley for internet access. If I used this in Crete it was £3.00 per MB

My mobile phone is with T Mobile and if I used that sim card it was £1.50 per MB, so I used to take the sim out of my phone and use that!

I know a guy that downloaded an album whils abroad and his mobile bill was over £500 when he returned home  Apparently he phoned them first and they said that the download was included in his monthly plan, but obviously it was not!

Pubs and bars with FREE wi-fi are the best option, but as we found out in several bars last year, many of them do not have working wi-fi, so you sit down and order a drink and then ask for the password, only to be told that the wi-fi is down ::b

Do you have BT Fon by any chance?

I ask becasue a customer of mine who is a BT engineer was telling me that when he was in Spain the hotel happened to be part of this, so he could log on, get all his internet for free and make calls for free as well.

I know how the system works, but do not know the specific details.

Maybe worth looking it up and even joining

Fon does work well (not solely BT, BT are their UK partners...a sneaky way to boost their "free" hotspot numbers...sadly in the UK they are mostly in residential streets) Spain its very popular, and I'm told there are a lot of hotspots available...just not in puero del carmen ( maps.fon.com )

General FON site ( http://www.fon.com/en/info/whatsFon )

As it turns out they've just had free wifi put in.

The trouble is you can only get a signal from the router in the bar :thumbright:
