Tiling around bathtub

Post by cameradoctor »

Hi all,

I am about to tile the walls in our ensuite, and wondered what the best procedure around the top of the bathtub is?

At this stage the builder has inistalled the tub, and used the correct water resistant drywall board down to the tub, and I am about to put tiles on that - should I be doing anything special regarding sealing where the tile meets the tub?

TIA

I would run a bead of silicon around the drywall before you tile and again after you have tiled to finish and seal the join.

Also fill the bathtub with water before applying the silicone. This is because a bathtub will move slightly when filled with water.

Thanks,

Do you mean at the bottom of the drywall, behind the tile, or between the bottom of the drywall and the top of the tub?

The 'after' bead goes between the tile and the tub ?

Seal the drywall to the tub first, then tile and apply a second seal.

Help with silicon residue!

Post by cameradoctor »

Ok,

This tiling job is nearly done - was putting the silicon sealer around tub and expansion joint around the walls, and I managed to get some residue from my dirty rag onto the floor tiles ( Porcelain )
It is residue from the excess sealer!!

It has made the floor very slippery - I tried lots of elbow grease while it was still wet, but to no avail!

Any tips as to what i can use to clean this off ? Acetone or Alcohol maybe ??

You can get silicone sealant remover.
Makes it go hard and you can peal/scrape it off.
