Firefox 3.6

I'm using the above all the time, but since 3.6 has installed it is crashing about 6 times or so a day, sending crash reports back to Mozilla each time.

Anyone else getting this problem?

Dave,

When it wants to send a crash report does it show you any details of the info it is sending? Ant error codes etc?

Not sure what the problem is but until it is sorted, revert back to Firefox v3.5.7:

Download it from the link and save to desktop or download folder.

Using the Control panel, uninstall the Firefox 3.6, then Run the downloaded installer.
That way all your personal settings will still be installed.


I am not getting any problems with it. What version of Windows do you have installed?

Just been looking into it and there are hundreds with the same saort of problem so don't think it is just your computer.

Some have suggested this:

Open FF -> Tools -> Clear recent history ->

Tick Cache and also Browsing and D/L History -> click Clear Now.

Then use the browser for a while and see if that cures the crash problem.

Post back because if it does, the Privacy Settings will need changing.

Well in my typical OTT mind, I decided as I am still off with this awful head cold, I would wipe my office pc and start again, this time with Win 7 64bit.

So far all my software seems to work ok.

I haven't downloaded Firefox yet, but will later.

Can't believe how visibly quicker the 64 Bit is

Glad to hear your move to 64bit is going well. I've found being able to use over 3GB RAM very useful due to the amount of programs I run at the same time and their memory requirements. I remember you said you use Photoshop, so if you work with a number of large files at the same time you should find your machine is more responsive.

although the 64Bit browser is faster, I've had to resort to the 32bit browser in Win7 64Bit. As adobe FLash doens't support 64Bit browser. Its built into so many site half the web doesn't work if I use 64bit browser.

Just an update.

Apart from the 64bit browser and flash as pointed out by gib_goblin, everything seems to be working fine.

Had a bit of a problem installing my Roxio Creator 2010, but found the cause from their FAQ's.

Also my logitech keyboard took a while to get going, even with the 64 bit drivers etc.

Anyway, pleased I took the plunge and made the change

I must admit that firefox used to crash all the time on Angies old computer.

It's a pain in the arse, especially as it causes so many problems for webmasters

If using firefox regularly get mozbackup.It allows you to save and restore all your firefox and also thunderbird settings easily.

I had to reinstall vista over the weekend as couldnt repair it and wouldnt boot up in anyway.glad i had backups galore inlcuding the firefox one.It means you can use it as it was when it went,all your logins etc all saved.

For anyone interested in using Moz Backup you can download it from:

Just remember to save your backups to either a different partition to where your operating system which is usually on C: drive or, better still to an external HD.

An excellent Addon for Firefox is the XMarks Bookmarks backup and synchroniser:
http://www.xmarks.com/
It copies your bookmarks and stores them on the web, but also detects any changes you make by adding or deleting Bookmarks, and syncs the web list with your 'on-browser' list when ever you close Firefox. You don't need to do anything.
Very handy if youhave to remove Firefox and then download a new version, it will put your Bookmarks where they were before.
