removing bearing from drill shaft

Post by sparkydude »

Have got to carry out some repais to my trusty bosch 24V cordless, needs a new set of brushes and also a new bearing on the main shaft. How do you remove a roller bearing from a round shaft, and more importantly how do you replace it. Do you heat and cool it as i have seen somewhere, not sure which you do or to which part .

Any help appreciated

Nick
If it isnt broke dont bloody touch it until it bloody well is and if it is broke then make drawing of the connections before you remove the broken one and replace with a new one LoL

won't be heated because the bearings are sealed for life and heating will displace the greace or whatever they lubricate with now

whats the model no and which bearing!!!!

Miles Hardware. Know them well, not far from me at all. :thumbright:

As for removing the bearing, id have thought it would come off fairly easily, a couple of prybars to lever it off evenly. (Assuming there is something to lever against that wont be damaged.

And to replace, tap it on carefully, pushing it on properly by using a socket that goes onto the inner part of the bearing.

probably just a good tight fit

need'nt tell you to try not to dammage the commutator

try gently levering between the commutator and bearing as close to the shaft and work your way round and see if it comes loose !!!
avoid pushing the outer ring or it may come appart :cb

ooo hitch beat me to it

Cheers for the replies, the coming apart when levering it off is not an isssue, it exploded inside my drill hence the replacement required. ALl thats left on the shaft is the inner ring of the bearing, so will mark the shaft where it is now and give it a go with a pair of grips or the old trusty vice.

You say you know them well hitch , whats their service like as i am in desperate need of the parts and ordered them on sunday asked them to tell me if they were in stock and had no reply back from them yet , thought they might have checked their stock today and let me know but nothing :cb :cb , i thought it was just the brushes gone on my drill till i opened it to find lots of bits of metal and the bearing in bits with the brush housiung gouging a new groove into my commutator.

Just the bearing inner can be cut with a junior hacksaw if you can get at it. If you have access to a decent vice clamp the bearing inner in the vice and knock shaft out with a pin punch, with someone to catch the exiting shaft :thumbright:

Oh, change bearing 14 while your at it. Its been carrying the can since 13 died.
