Mcafee update

Time has come to renew our subscription....

If i go via my Mcafee account, it says i can get McAfee AntiVirus Plus (1-year subscription) at a price of £38.99.

I can buy Mcafee Antivirus Plus, 2010 from amazon for under £12...

Am i missing something here...?

Get AVG free it seems fine to me.

I would check that the Amazon version comes with the same 1 year of updates. I had a quick look at Amazon, but I couldn't see anything that said for how long you were entitled to updates. I would guess it's the same 1 year though and that McAffee are charging the full RRP.

Hitch,
Just ensure that McAfee are not like Norton and take the renewal subscription from what ever card you used to pay for the original.

Hitch,
To be honest I would remove McAfee and use FREE security Software.

One of the very few differences between the free and paid for versions is additional auto scanning or auto updates.

Get yourself the Comodo Firewall and an Antivirus program, along with a real-time Antispyware program and you are safe.

The Comodo Firewall comes as an Internet Security Suite with it's own Antivirus which I use on one PC along with Windows Defender as real-time Antispyware.

On the other PC I have Comodo Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials, which is an Antivirus and Antispyware program in one.

Note! Comodo Firewall is now part of Comodo Internet Security Suite = Comodo AntiVirus + Comodo Firewall, but you can install just the firewall if you use a different AntiVirus.

Windows Defender

A couple of the 'Night Club Bouncers' that are worth having for a weekly scan to check that nothing has slipped passed your front line defences, are:
SuperAntiSpyware

MalwareBytes' AntiMalware using the BLUE button for the FREE version.

If you plan on removing McAfee then use the proper removal tool to ensure that all of it is removed:

Download the McAfee Removal Tool and run it to remove the programs.
Click on the following link to download the MCPR removal tool

Click Save and save the file to your desktop
Close all McAfee Application windows you may have open, and double-click on MCPR.exe to start the removal tool. Windows Vista users will have to right-click on the file and select "Run as Administrator"
After the removal tool finishes, you should be prompted to restart your computer.
Once the computer restarts, your McAfee product should be uninstalled.

Before removing McAfee, decide which programs you want to use to replace it and download them and Save to Desktop or to Download Folder. Do not run the installers until you have removed McAfee, but once you have downloaded everything including the removal too, disconnect from your router so that you are working off-line.

i used to have AVG until it did an update & came up with an error message
couldn't update it, couldn't remove it

managed to disable it & install Avast instead

I have always use Mcafee right from the off on this computer, never had a problem yet.
Its easy to setup, install, and the utilities works well, all the things are in one place.

Id sooner pay to update it than i would mess around trying to remove it and downloading various other things that will take me weeks to configure how i want them.

She bought it on cd today, installed it now. Cd is valid for a years worth of updates. Half the price of the download update.
