Wet Room queries

Post by dinolep »

Hi, I am looking to undertake the creation of a wet room in my flat however due to having young children I do not want there to be a "step" into the bathroom where the bathroom tiles sit above the level of the hallway floorboards.
The floorboards currently run throughout the hall and bathroom, so I was going to remove the bathroom floorboards and replace it with 28mm wpb before laying a waterproof membrane and tiling on top. problem is this leaves a step into the bathroom.
I thought about setting the wbp on noggins attached to the joists so that it sat at the same height as the top of the joist, but thought that this would cause problems when the joists and wpb moved at different rates.
Can anyone help me with a solution??
Cheers

what thickness is your hall floorboards?

you could build the bathroom floor up from scratch with either 12 or 18mm wbp ply primed underside and egdes then overboard with either 6mm or 12 mm backerboards to come up level with hall floor.

just be carefull here mate a wet room installation is not for the faint hearted if you have not done this sort of thing before i would strongly suggest you get proffesional help in..or it could/will go :::: up.

unfortunately that would leave me about level with the hallway floorboards if I wpb and then backerboard the floor....I think that a step will have to be used. I was planning on using schutler kerdi to line the floors, which seems to be well recommended. I haven't done a wet room before but I have done full bathroom installations before so I am pretty confident.....

Hi Dino,
Have built a few wetrooms, last job, they were en-suites with glass walls and doors, all we did is built up a hardwood threshold- well sealed and a clear soft plastic seal along the door edges (profiles available from Hafele)
