Speedyfox
Download and Save to Desktop or Download Folder.
Close Firefox browser
Double clcik the icon and click Run
Leave profile as Default and click Speedup Button.
Takes about 20 seconds

It does appear to make a difference to the browser speed.

Quote from MajorGeeks:

"Firefox uses SQLITE databases to store lots of its settings. By the time the databases grow and Firefox starts working slowly. SpeedyFox compacts those databases without loosing any data.

How often should I run SpeedyFox?

Depending on your browsing activity we recommend optimizing your profile once in 1-2 weeks."

Run Ccleaner to clear out the temp files.
You may also notice that some pages take a while to load if they include lots of pictures, even if each picture is not very large, a lot of trhem makes that page huge in size and thus the loading is slow.

John,
I would recommend that you upgrade your IE6 to IE8 sooner rather than later.
Microsoft are going to stop support and security updates for it sometime and Google is stopping suport for its applications that run on IE6:

Just discovered that the latest update to Ccleaner now puts a compactor in the options for Firefox, which does the same thing as the SpeedyFox.

In Ccleaner in the Cleaner Mode, click the Applications Tab and (if you have Firefox installed) under the first heading of Firefox, place a tick in 'Compact Database'. This will do the job everytime you run the Cleaner.
