Removing vinyl to ceramic on concrete

Post by Gordo »

What preperation is required to fix the ceramic tiles to concrete when there is residue left from the vinyl tiles when I lifted them. Can I just apply ceramic glue over the residue, or is there some sort of special prep needed. All advise very welcome.

Hi Gordo,
Welcome. Got any pictures of the floor?

Would be easier to comment as the coverage of the residue can make a difference.

What is the residue? Back of vinyl? Just the adhesive? What's the covarage?

I suspect it is the bitumen type glue that is a bast to remove. Usually a sealer type screed is applied over to provide a sound surface to tile on.

Hi Gordo
try a bit of metho mixed with turps about 50/50 on the glue, leave it for about 10 mins and see if the scrapper will take it off. I removed the adhesive from cork tiles this way on a concrete floor. The metho reacts with the glue and the trups stops it from drying out too quickly
cheers
