b and q - trade point outlets

Got the screwfix style tradepoint catalogue today. Prices look good when compaired to screwfix prices.

The same or cheaper......... for example, turbogold screws are about 10% cheaper than SFD.

Counter open till 9pm, trade only counter. They have replaced the b and q trade desks with a screwfix style trade desk, and they are turning away none trade in this area.

The sheet wood prices appear good as well.

SFD - £24.39 (only 310ml tubes)
Toolstation - £27 (350ml tubes)
Bnq trade point - £21.98 (350ml tubes)

Dow corning 781 clear, just one

SFD - £5
Bnq trade point - £4
toolstation dont sell dow corning.

Just a few prices looked at, but it does look like they can be trusted on having a good price

I just don't understand Kingfishers logic

They own Screwfix and B&Q

Screwfix do mail order, B&Q have the stores.

Screwfix open up trade counters and in many places they are close to the B&Q stores

Then B&Q start doing deals for tradesmen only, from within their stores

You would think that they were competing against each other, where is the logic in that

good practice realy you may loose 5% from your own outlets but you also gain 3 or 4 times more from other outlets[wicks plumb centre ect ect] giving an overal gain

power tools are about the same as screwfix, but dm tools beat them both on price on almost every tool.

Its just the usual, you win some, you loss some. (although there was more loss at bnq, and less wins) Got to keep your eye on them all.

The handy thing for me is its open till 9pm, and they will pick all the sheets of wood / bags / scant etc, so its sitting for you to collect in the evening.

They were saying some of the customers who liked to use the trade desk checkouts were going mental when they turned them away and told them to go to the normal checkouts. Annoyed the crap out of me when non trade made me wait at the trade desks

So unless you have a tradepoint account you cannot use the trade checkout anyomore?

That is a real bummer

I often park near the trade outlet as there is more room for vans.

Most of the stuff I buy from B&Q is large, such as 8*4 sheets etc. I certainly don't fancy taking them to the normal tills

Oh well, their website is a load of crap and now it looks like their stores are as well. I'll not be using them anymore if I need a trade account to go out the most convenient exit

so, with that logic, you will never been seen in Selco either, or any trade outlet that requires a card to buy?

Would you have a card for topptiles, or do you pay the top end price?

Would not shop at tops tiles. Hate the place. ...hate anywhere that starts at a rediculous price then if you won't pay can knock over 50% off thenthere's the unreliability etc.
Looked into a BnQ trade card as I shop there quite a lot. Didn't bother as my mum gets a better discount - the 10% on wednesdays.

Never heard of Selco

I used to have a matalan card, but every body used to need one to get in when they opened originally. I once went and filled my basket with a few items and at the checkout there was a huge queue. I put the basket down and walked out.

If businesses do not want to spend money paying a cashiers wage they can spend the money on the staff that have to empty my basket and put it back into stock. That was about 5 years ago and I have never been in since.

If you needed a card at B&Q from day one, then fair enough. But if it is true that I can't use the trade checkout without a card I'll leave my trolley and walk out and shop elsewhere
