12 mm seems a little thin if you are considering using concealed hinges.

having a go yourself is comendeble, have a go at just one door and see if it is a pain or easy. that way the cost of one door if it is too much bother, wont brake the bank.
you will probably see different ways to do the next batch.

good luck.

The made up door is 18mm and the hinge mortice does just break the 12mm board but does not come through the 6mm shaker 'frame' part.

Cheers for explaing that one DWD, MDF arrived yesterday so get stuck in soon, do you recommened a decent 35mm forstener bit ? I ordered one of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/35mm-Titanium-For ... 5ad83a80de

I tried it on a piece of scrap wood in my router at different speeds and my drill, all it does is burn the wood its useless :cussing:

Pics will be posted of finished doors or firewood

A router is far too fast for these cutters which will just skid on the surface at speed. I use an ordinary drill and blip the trigger in bursts with a bit of weight behind it, the slower the speed the better the bite and also control. On my hinge mortice bit the depth of the cutter block part is at the correct depth when it is flush with the surface. Have another try with your drill on your practice piece.

Ok DWD update for you

All doors cut slightly over then clamped to original and routed with flush bit to excact size worked out well, tomorrow grooves to be done in all doors, finger crossed,
Tried drill bit again no joy contacted who i had it from on ebay and gave me a full refund, nice of them.
Do you have any recommendations of a decent bit ?

hi

i got this bosch bit from b&poo
http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?a ... earch=true

it worked perfect on the mdf doors i last fitted, its easyer to drill a small pilot hole in the centre to guide it as the point is not razor sharp

the only use for meths in a wood context is to seal the resin from knots

sorry missed the grooves bit i would use a stiff paint brush not a damp cloth as water will dammage the mdf as its basicly thick cardboard
