Glass/Tile Drill Bits

Not really much call for drilling glass or tiles by the DIYer but for six quid, these may come in handy:

Could be useful for fixing things in a tiled bathroom, instead of using masonary bits.

its the type of bits that a DIYer rarely uses but when you need it for glass its very handy. For tiles I just use a masonary or multipurpose bit but a cheapo set could be useful.

I used to use masonary bits on tiles, then my brother gave me a cheap set of tile bits (the spear head type) They are just so much better. Don't even need masking tape to stop the drill wondering. Just push the point where you want and apply a little preasure and you hear it dig in to the glaze. Then drill away.

Shame my set as 6 and 8mm bits, but no 7 for standard brown plugs. Fitting the radiator this weekend I just use the masonary to widen it out after the tile bit was done.

Duno if I'm just lucky but I use a center punch (or a wood screw) and light tap of the hammer to chip the glaze before I drill with masonary bit. So it doesn't wander.

Always seems to work but drill tile bit is a lot better me thinks :wink;

John just stick a bit of masking tape over the point you are drilling,it stops it skidding across the tile.

i used a masonry bit for years until i cane across bosch multi construction bits

The masking tape never really worked for me It just kind of got chewed up by the bit then I was back to bare tile and skidding around, holding the dril at funny angles to try and get it to drill in the right place.

same here, I tried the whole tape thing but never satisfactorily.

The multiconstruction bits are better alright, more spade like,

Never had a problem ,just start low speed non hammer ang a good bit
