Hi All,
Hope you had a nice bank holiday weekend.

I have transferred files from C drive to D drive.

C drive is now 4.84GB free space left and total is 27.9GB.

D drive 68.3GB free space left and total is 121GB.

My work colleague installed Microsoft 2007 which he told not to update, as it was a copy and now i am getting a message from Security centre

To start with uninstall the "Microsoft 2007" then follow the instructions here: http://www.myantispyware.com/2010/03/17 ... ware-2010/ . If you don't find they help do a Google search as there are loads of removal instructions for XP AntiMalware. After this do a full virus/spyware scan as there may be other infections that you're not aware of. In future stick to genuine software, dodgy copies of software are one of the easiest ways to get your machine infected.

I would instantly reclass your "work colleague" as an EX WORK COLLEAGUE for putting malware onto your computer.
Next time you see him, tell him he is a prat.

In the mean time follow Rich's instructions in the link he gave.

I will now have to save all my files and then run a recovery disc, as this malware does not want to go at all.

It is a pain and spoke to my Colleague it was PC world guy who place the skybot Malware and this is why you got this virus nothing to do with the copy of the 2007.

However it will have to be run a recovery disc.

It may just be me that is losing this thread but what does this mean:

"It is a pain and spoke to my Colleague it was PC world guy who place the skybot Malware and this is why you got this virus nothing to do with the copy of the 2007. "

When did your computer go to PC World and what for?
*********************************
You said earlier that:

"My work colleague installed Microsoft 2007 which he told not to update, as it was a copy and now i am getting a message from Security centre"

Microsoft (WHAT?) 2007

What ever this was, uninstall it, preferrably using Revo Uninstaller
In the final clean up only delete entries in bold type

***********************************

You have got some malware on your computer and it did not come from PC World.

As it is preventing you downloading the MalwarebytesAntiMalware (MBAM) and will also probably not let you download SuperAntiSpyware (SAS), you can download on another computer and save to a usb memory stick and run them from that when it is plugged into your computer.

So, on another computer and take a usb stick and plug it in.

Download MBAM and save to the usb stick. Or save to desktop and then move the setup.exe to the usb stick.

Repeat with SAS

Boot the infected computer in 'safe mode with internet connection' using the F8 key as soon as it starts.
When in safe mode, plug in the usb stick and install MBAM from it, update it and run a quick scan. Remove everything it finds.

Then install SAS and update and run a quick scan. Remove all that it finds.

Post back.

Sorry to confuse you.

Where i work they have a contract with Pc world IT remote support and maintenance, if anything goes wrong with the computer they can log in to your computer only at work and they can have a look at it. They can look at your computer which belongs to work and registered with PC world.

I knew this person at PC world to have a look at it as speacial favour.

This when they installed the malware to my computer and since then i had this virus.

It does not let me open the internet explorer or my Mcafee.

I will follow what you have recommeded and take it from there.

Hi Dave,
I got it sorted over the weekend the xp anitmalware, as my freind came round and he opened the Task Manager and stopped one of thee process and then he re open the internet and downloaded the remove tool option from the web and then he downloaded the malware and did a full scan to computer and remove all the infected files and now there is no virus on my computer.

I just need to sort out the Ram to speed up the computer speed.

Your screenshot of the system properties shows 480MB of RAM which means that you have probably one x 512MB stick.

The Crucial Memory Scanner
http://www.crucial.com/uk/index.aspx?cpe=CHAWKuk
Will tell you exactly what is installed and also how much and what type you can go up to.
Just run it and make a note for yourself as to what type and speed you have and how many slots you have. Then you can buy more from either Crucial or on line.
If Crucial says you can fit 2GB and you have 512 in one slot then just go for one x 1GB stick, which will treble your existing RAM capacity.

As for the startup list that tech support mentioned.

Go to Start -> Run -> type msconfig in the box and click OK.
Click the Startup tab and make a list EVERY item in that list.

Go to http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?filter=&letter=

Just scroll down to the search box and type each item in and see what it says about it. Almost all that you enter will not be required at startup.

The only things listed in my Startup list are:
Realtek Audio Control Panel (because I want it running)
Comodo Internet Security Suite
WinPatrol System Monitor.

Remember that a lot of things that you may have listed are only there because they 'put themselves there' when you installed something.
Most of the things listed will not be essential and will start by clicking the shortcut on the desktop or in the All Programs list when you do need them.

Victor followed these instructions and noticed an improvement is speed:
start-menu-t29286.html

I bought my first computer about five or six years ago and did not even know how to connect it up or switch it on.

Since then, being almost housebound through ill health, and being one of those people who MUST know HOW things work, I set about finding out everything I could from books and the interwebby.

I am on my computers number 2 and 3, now, number one went to the recycling centre a couple of years ago but some of the bits from it are still stored in my shed.

I tend to use No. 2 to replicate any problems that people have on their own computer if I am unable to understand fully what the problem is. It is also my second backup place for my data files.
